The Knowhow
Important: You should only use your system restore discs if you are encountering very serious problems, such as after a major virus infection. They will reset your computer to how it was when the discs were created. This means any files, settings and programs added since then will be deleted. If you are able to, we strongly recommend you back up any important files before you start the restore process.
Starting the system restore:
- Insert the first recovery disc into your computer
- Shut down the system
- When the computer has shut down, wait at least thirty seconds
- Restart the computer
- Press any key when the message Press any key to boot from CD or DVD appears - this needs to be done quickly or the computer will try to start as normal
- If you don't press a key in time, restart the computer and try again
- Follow the on screen instructions
- When you reach the System Recovery Options or Install Windows page, choose your language preferences and click Next
- Your computer will now look for installed versions of Windows
- Click Next when it has finished doing this
- If given the option, choose Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting windows
- When given the option, select System Image Recovery
- Follow the onscreen instructions
- When the process is finished, eject your recovery disc and select Restart
Note: This process may take some time. Your computer will restart several times, and you may be asked to insert other discs while Windows repairs the system.
