The Intel® Wireless Display (WiDi), technology allows you to wirelessly stream video and photos directly from their WiDi-equipped PC or laptop to a large screen TV or HDTV with the help of a small adaptor and a dedicated WiFi (802.11n) connection.
What do I need?
- Laptop or PC must have Intel® Wireless Display technology installed (look for the WiDi sticker)
- Windows Operating System: At present WiDi is only available for those who have the Windows OS which uses Wi-Fi as its transmission medium
- A WiDi adaptor to plug into your TV (like the Belkin above)
- Content downloaded on your hard drive or link for streaming
The Intel® Wireless Display must be enabled and set by the computer manufacturer however as setting this up in another system that wasn't validated might not work or would be unstable.
What if I don't have a new laptop?
Laptops with 2nd generation Intel Core processors come with built-in WiDi, allowing them to stream high quality photos and 1080p HD video to a big screen TV. However you can upgrade to full HD on some older laptops with Intel Core Processors. The minimum system requirements for the Intel® Wireless Display are available on the: Intel website
Smart TVs have additional options for watching TV from your PC...
It won't be long before you'll be seeing Smart TVs which will also allow you to display content streamed from your Intel® WiDi computer, notebook or your mobile phone without even having to plug in an adaptor.
But in the meantime, as the lines between television and internet continue to blur, WiDi unleashes the best of what you can download from the internet to a full screen experience with bigger speakers. So get comfy and enjoy all the benefits of the worldwide web in the comforts of your own home!
