The Knowhow

Office software you can buy:

Microsoft Office 2010

Microsoft has been an industry leader in office software for many years offering a large number of powerful features in an easy to use format. Which?, the independent consumer organisation, says it is 'difficult to recommend any other paid for software in the face of this worthy best buy.'.

The starting package, Home and Student 2010, offers a minimum of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and OneNote. Home and Business 2010 also includes Outlook and Professional 2010 adds Access, a database manager, and Publisher, which is "desktop publishing" software.

This software is a great office all-rounder, letting you create documents, spreadsheets, Powerpoint presentations and organise your notes, ideas and information through packages like OneNote.

More in-depth users will find the ability to share information across the Office applications with the new "co-authoring" facility useful, and It's easy to access your files from different locations through Office Web Apps.

New PCs are often pre-installed with a trial version of Office 2010. This may be a free-to-use version with limited functions or give you all the functions but need to be purchased after a certain period of time or number of uses.
