Dirt, dust, food and grease residue or even tobacco smoke can get on the windows of the hand unit. Use water with a little detergent to gently clean the area.
The unit’s window may be damaged. It may need replacing, but give it a clean and polish first - this might do the trick.
You can carry out a simple test to see if you're remote has power using a digital camera or phone's camera function:
- Look at the camera screen, point your remote at the lens and press some buttons
- If your remote is working, you should see a flash come from the end of the remote when looking at the camera screen
- You can use this test to check if specific buttons are working
